Ready to Go
Awhile ago, Odilia gave me 25 kitchen cabinet doors to use for art. So far, about 6 of them are painted, getting ready for a local show. Here's one of them, re-imaging Lombard Street.

The Hurrier I Go, the Behinder I Get
A trivet just like this one hung in the kitchen where I grew up. We used it to set hot dishes on the table.
When I saw it online, I was tempted to buy it for nostalgia. Then I remembered we are trying to purge things, not accumulate more. It's funny how seeing it brings back a flood of memories, and missing my mom, because it was hers.

Golden Gate
The bridge. The other day we were driving across it, and I wondered out loud, how many photographs per day are taken of this bridge? There are hundreds of pedestrians on the bridge, and everyone has a camera. You can see the bridge from locations all around the bay. We are drawn to it, and the views of the city make it even more of a magnet.
This painting shows the bridge in the distant future. Who can say what kind of visitors will be visiting?
You can see some of my new SF themed pieces this month at City Art gallery, 828 Valencia St, San Francisco. Opening Reception is Friday, August 5th, 7-10pm
This piece sold the day after the opening reception... Cool!

Visiting the Castro
In August, City Art Gallery is featuring a San Francisco theme show. I set out to create some fun, simple pieces to contribute. The first one, Visiting the Castro, borrows a sketch from a commission proposal. The idea for my San Francisco series is that in the distant future, San Francisco continues to be a tourist destination, but it is robots and aliens from the far galaxies who come to visit. No SF holiday would be complete without a stop in the Castro...

Embarcadero Rocket
In 2009, early morning at Burning Man, I had the pleasure of being alone, and visiting up close, the Raygun Gothic Rocket now on display at the Embarcadero. Love at first sight. Out on the playa, 40' seemed immense.
I'm glad it is on display in the city for everyone to enjoy!
Here's more information about the original installation...

Worlds Collide
What would happen if you could exist in two places at the same time?
Outer space, and San Francisco. Wait, that's not such a stretch, is it?

Tweezer Towers
The Transamerica Pyramid usually gets all the glory, so I wanted to show another iconic San Francisco building, 345 California Center, (not such a great name)--better known as Tweezer Towers.

Good Neighbors
This painting is not about a specific neighborhood, but is about San Francisco. We still have wires all over the sky.

My Pyramid Friend
I used to sketch eyes and eyeballs on all kinds of things, and now it has come into my art. This robot and the Transamerica Pyramid have that in common. The robot stands tall and tries to measure up.

Castro Families
While the iconic Castro Theater continues to identify the neighborhood, I am seeing more families than ever in the local population.
We have friends who have adopted, and others who have created their own families with two moms and two dads. It is common to see baby strollers, and parents walking with their young children. That is a good thing.
Straight or gay, it does not matter--people are raising families.
