Heads up: Johnny Botts art @ Hotel Triton

Hotel Triton, a boutique San Francisco hotel near Union Square, displays fantastic local art in their lobby and Mezzanine Gallery. Harper's Bazaar singled out the Hotel Triton as the best hotel in San Francisco, calling it "a happening and unique escape from the mundane."

I'm so pleased to be invited to show my work there through McKinley Art Solutions.
This is all new work, featuring many of my favorite robot characters. Photos soon...

Artists: Do you create for yourself, or for the market?

I remember Trevor Southey saying that any time he created artwork featuring a flower, it would sell right away. But he doesn't do just that. Thankfully for us, he works in several media covering diverse subjects, so we have so much more to appreciate in him.

As you're getting ready for upcoming shows, do you ponder questions--is it OK to repeat pieces that have done well? How much similarity is OK? Do you have to love every piece? Should you create for yourself, or for the market? What's the balance?

I'm interested to know how other artists handle these questions.

Big, Big Deal

(David King, Easy as Pie, Collage)

Visual Aid is holding it's annual BIG BIG DEAL Art Sale and Fundraiser
4-9:30, Saturday November 13.

This is a Fun, packed party to see and buy original art, donated by artists and priced at $165! The trick is to secure an early number so you can have the widest selection. I'm volunteering as an art wrangler, or "Vanna"... That means I may be holding up artwork during the auction portion of the evening. I'm really glad to help out however they me.

Check it out!
