Sparkle Magic

For years, my dad used 35mm slide film when he took photos of the family. Each roll of film might span a month or a year, depending on how many photos he shot at any one event. As kids we joked that the same roll would include Halloween and Christmas. We rarely looked at any of the slides, because it was a big production. It involved dragging out the Kodak carousel (hoping the bulb worked), setting up the screen, and sitting in the dark. Quietly. With 9 kids in the family, that was rare to do.

At a recent family reunion, we did set up the equipment, and viewed a sampling of the slides. It was lot of fun with people roaring laughing. The hair! The outfits! The rigid posing in front of a bush! Family members had never seen some of them.

So last night Bill and I started a somewhat ambitious project to scan all the slides to share with the family. It looks like there are around 3000 of them, mostly taken in the 60’s and 70’s. I love it that today’s magic technology makes it to possible to bring them back to life and share with the next generation.

In the City

Sometimes images of my paintings don't ever make it to my website. Many of the earlier pieces are long gone, and I may or may not have an image stored somewhere.

My goal is to organize so I'll have a photographic record of things as they are created, with titles and dates. I'm using a database called Working Artist, *mentioned* by Alyson B. Stanfield in her book "I'd Rather be in the Studio." I'm interested to know how other artists keep track of everything.

This commission painting, "In the City," went out to Sarah yesterday. Enjoy!
