Weightless

The unusual recessed handles of these recycled cabinet doors inspired me to create spherical asteroids, and robots playing with them.

They're still in process, but close to done. Each panel is 14 3/4 x 15 1/2, available soon!

Mom

One of my earliest memories of my mom is an incident that happened when I was 4 or 5 years old.

I was alone, upstairs in the house, and had found a permanent magic marker. Instead of drawing on the walls, I chose a leather suitcase from a closet under the rafters. I drew big happy pictures on both sides--a stick figure man on one side, and stick figure sunshine on the other.

Mom found me and was upset, asking why I would draw on our GOOD suitcase of all things? It was ruined. "I don't know...." I did things without thinking.

She forgave me pretty quickly, and laughed it off later. We kept the suitcase for a long time--probably even used it again on our trips. Wish I had it today. Thanks for the memory mom!

Happy Mother's Day!

Driftwood Salon "Lost and Found"

Most of the pieces in Driftwood Salon's “Lost and Found” show are more than simply making art on recycled materials. They feature the recycled parts as the art. There are collages of doll heads, license plates, and assorted stuff (think burning man bike decoration). Liz Mamorsky shows robots made of wooden (telephone?) boxes and parts. Most interesting to me are silhouette portraits using tiny scraps of newspaper and assembling them inside clear bottles. A lot of work! (think ship in a bottle). Most of the featured works are very sculptural, with the exception of a few paintings on found plexiglass, a window, a tabletop, and a door.

Interesting space—they have no name on the building, only a piece of driftwood over the door where a name would be. Inside, driftwood logs are hung high on the walls, and the art is suspended from them.

Worth a visit.
Work by Liz Mamorsky, Rafael Bensuaski Vieira, Allison Adams, Larry Berger, Cynthia Tom,Daniel Barron, Martin Zuniga, Tracy Burnham, Tyler Bergholz, Barrett Cook, Lee Nisbet, Greg Wilson, Rick Darnell, and Richard Palazzolo

Johnny Botts' Stripes at City Art

Before American Idol tonight with friends, I squeezed in hanging new work at City Art. My new striped pieces are: True Blue, Pink Minx, Hello Yellow, and Green Meanie. I had to rush out before I saw what everyone else was hanging, but what I did see was great. I'm looking forward to seeing it all Friday. Please come by to meet all the artists!

Thanks Saratoga Rotary!

We had a beautiful day, and a wonderful place to spend it. The Rotary members were fantastic--friendly, helpful and well organized--giving directions for setup, coming by with coffee, juice and muffins in the morning, and repeating the rounds at lunchtime.

There were a lot of artists to see at the fair, so thank you to all the people who stopped by the johnnybotts booth!
